FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -In a Dec. 29 story about Penn's modern-day record for the lowest first-half point total in college basketball, The Associated Press, relying on NCAA statistics, reported erroneously that the previous record-holder was Central Michigan and that the NCAA record for longest scoreless stretch to start a game is 13:53.
Penn scored six points in the first half against Florida Gulf Coast, tying the lowest first-half point of Northwestern, which also holds the NCAA record for longest scoreless stretch to start at 15:13 against Illinois in 2001.
The incorrect reference also was included in a Jan. 8 story from Manhattan, Kan., about the Kansas State-Savannah State game, in which Savannah State set a new record scoring only four first-half points.
