BALTIMORE (AP) -Loyola took over first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, beating Canisius, 88-77, Thursday night behind a 28-point performance by Marquis Sullivan.

Gerald Brown scored 27 for the Greyhounds (18-12, 12-5), who moved a half-game ahead of idle Niagara, Siena and Rider. The Golden Griffins (5-23, 2-15) have lost six straight conference games and all 15 of their road games this season.

Michael Tuck scored 16, and Brian Rudolph had 13 for the Greyhounds. Greg Logins and Frank Turner each scored 17, and Bob Bevilacqua added 16 for Canisius.

The Greyhounds, who have won 11 of their past 13 games, shot 27-of-55 from the floor and 9-of-18 from 3-point range.

Loyola never trailed and Sullivan's third 3-pointer of the game gave the Greyhounds a 21-6 lead with 9:34 left in the first half. The Greyhounds scored 14 points off 10 Canisius turnovers and led 40-25 at the half.

A 3-pointer by Willie Hassell capped a 13-3 run by the Golden Griffins and cut the lead to 57-43 with 13:38 remaining. Canisius played even with Loyola throughout the second half, and a 3-pointer by Bevilacqua with 1:31 remaining cut the deficit to 11, but the Golden Griffins did not have enough time to make another run.

Canisius shot 18-for-35 (51.4 percent) from the floor in the second half after going 10-for-29 before halftime.
