RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -Tony Durant scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half to lead Towson to an 81-66 win over Hofstra in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament on Friday.

The Tigers (13-17) will face top-seeded Virginia Commonwealth in Saturday's first quarterfinal game. The Pride (12-18) missed 25 of 29 field goal attempts in the first period and trailed 31-13 at the half. In one stretch, Hofstra missed 17 of 18 field goal attempts.

In the second half, the Pride came out hitting five straight and eventually cut the lead to 51-48 with 8:06 remaining on a short jumper by Charles Jenkins.

Towson built the lead back to 16 with a 15-2 spurt over the next 5:27.

Hofstra could get no closer than 13 as the Tigers hit 15 of 16 free throws over the final 3:02.

Josh Thornton led Towson with 22 points and C.C. Williams added 14, all in the second half.

Hofstra's Antoine Agudio scored 25 of his 27 points in the second half and Jenkins scored all 14 of his points in the second half.
