PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -Tim Welsh is out as Providence's basketball coach after his third losing season in four years.
His contract was up after this season and the school said Saturday he will not return.
Athletic director Bob Driscoll said Welsh represented the school with ``dignity and class'' but a change of leadership was needed.
Welsh spent 10 seasons at the Big East school and twice led Providence to the NCAA tournament. His team went 15-16 this season. The Friars lost to West Virginia 58-53 in the opening round of the Big East tournament.
