LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -Bill Self will remain the men's basketball coach at Kansas, a person familiar with the decision said Thursday.

The move ends uncertainty about Self's future after he led the Jayhawks to their first NCAA title in 20 years on Monday.

The person spoke on condition on anonymity because an official announcement had yet to be made. Kansas called an afternoon news conference to talk about Self's future.

Self spent much of the day meeting with athletic director Lew Perkins.

Self has indicated several times since winning the NCAA championship that he was inclined to remain at Kansas. There has been speculation that Oklahoma State, where he played and coached, might make a megabucks offer to lure him away.

Self's Jayhawks won a school-record 37 games and beat Memphis for the national title. He had three years left on a contract that pays him about $1.3 million annually and has said he was primarily interested in long-term security and upgrading basketball facilities.

Since replacing Roy Williams in 2003, Self is 142-32 with four regular-season Big 12 titles.
