PITTSBURGH (AP) -Stephen Wood, a sophomore guard who rushed to the aid of several injured teammates following an on-campus shooting in 2006, is leaving Duquesne University and will transfer to another school.

Wood played in only three games last season after averaging 4 points per game as a freshman, when he started 12 times and scored in double figures twice. He had a career-high 12 points against Pitt that season.

The 6-foot-4 Wood, at the school only a few weeks, was among several Dukes players who helped five teammates after they were shot following an on-campus function in September 2006. Wood gave immediate aid to Stuard Baldonado, who had been shot in the arm and the back, and may have prevented further injury to the player.

``I turned away, and saw Stu on the floor, and my first reaction was to take my shirt off and try to stop the bleeding,'' Wood told The Associated Press the day after the shootings.

Wood, from New York City, and teammates Aaron Jackson and Kojo Mensah helped Baldonado and Sam Ashaolu, who was the most seriously injured and nearly died of bullet wounds to the head. Baldonado has since left school, while Ashaolu remains a student but may never resume his playing career.

Wood has not said which school he will attend.
