BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Ed Horton scored a career-high 19 points to lead Birmingham-Southern to a 75-61 victory over N.C.-Asheville on Wednesday night.
It was the eighth consecutive victory for the Panthers (15-5, 8-1 Big South Conference), who remain tied at No. 1 in the conference.
Freshman Michael Ellis scored a game-high 29 points for the Bulldogs (5-14, 3-6) and Oliver Holmes added 10 to round out the team's double-digit scoring.
Sredrick Powe added 13 points the Panthers, who shot 52.8 percent from the floor. Thomas Viglianco had 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds while Dwayne Paul added 10 for BSC.
Horton scored 12 points in the first half and provided an early spark for Birmingham-Southern, which led 21-10 with 7:26 left before the half.
However, the Bulldogs caught up quickly, outscoring the Panthers 11-2 to end the half trailing 33-26.
Joseph Barber scored to close the gap to five at the start of the second half, but N.C.-Asheville did not get any closer the rest of the game.
The win was No. 398 for Birmingham-Southern head coach Duane Reboul and the Panther's current steak is their longest since winning nine straight in the 1999-2000 season.
