LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) - James Collins scored 25 points to lead Birmingham-Southern to a 74-59 victory Saturday over Virginia Military Institute.
Collins hit nine of 16 field goals, including 6 of 12 three-pointers, to lead Birmingham Southern (16-5, 9-1 Big South), which took the lead to stay with 9:21 remaining in the first half. VMI only trailed by 3 at the half but saw its deficit grow to as much as 16 when Collins hit a 3-pointer with 5:02 remaining.
VMI (7-14, 2-8 Big South) was led by Reggie Williams with 18 points. Matt Murrer and Preston Beverly each scored 10.
