CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Jack Leasure scored 22 points and had six rebounds as Coastal Carolina beat Birmingham-Southern 69-59 Saturday.
With the win, the Chanticleers (15-9, 9-4 Big South Conference) secured a home game in the first round of the Big South Conference and still have a chance to pass the Panthers into second place in the league.
Leasure's 3-pointer from the corner gave Coastal Carolina a 26-24 lead at halftime.
The Chanticleers then opened the second half on a 12-1 run over the opening three minutes, eventually pushing the lead to 51-33 with just over 10 minutes to go.
Birmingham-Southern (18-7, 11-3) fought back to trail 63-59 with 1:50 to go, but Moses Sonko had a jumper and a breakaway dunk to put the game away for Coastal Carolina.
Sonko scored 10 points and Pele Paelay added 17 points for the Chanticleers, who have won seven straight and nine of their last 10.
James Collins led Birmingham-Southern with 27 points, while Dwayne Paul added 14 points.
