CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Thomas Viglianco and Sredrick Powe each scored 12 points to lift Birmingham-Southern to a 62-46 victory over Charleston Southern Monday night.
The Panthers (19-7 12-3 Big South Conference) scored 15 straight points midway through the first half to turn a three point lead into a 28-10 advantage.
The Buccaneers (11-15, 6-9) would cut the deficit to 10 twice in the second half, but couldn't get any closer.
Birmingham-Southern's win combined with Winthrop's loss to Liberty on Monday puts the Panthers one-half game ahead of the Eagles for first place in the Big South.
Winthrop and Birmingham-Southern will face each other in the regular-season finale Saturday. The winner of the regular season title gets to host the conference tournament as long as they are in it.
The Panthers shot 62.5 percent (25-of-40) for the game and missed just five shots from the field in the second half.
Bucky McMillan and James Collins each added 10 points for Birmingham-Southern.
Donnell Covington led Charleston Southern with 13 points, while Chris Moore added eight points.
