DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -Zach Trader scored a game-high 22 points to lead Texas-Pan American past Jackson State 70-64 Friday night in the first round of the Drake Regency Classic.
Trader connected on 9 of 15 from the floor and keyed a late spurt that sealed the win for the Broncs (6-4).
Trader scored on two straight layups to break a 56 tie and give the Broncs a 60-58 lead with 3:59 remaining. Brian Burrell drained a 3 and Nathan Hawkins followed with a driving layup to put the game away.
Jeremy Caldwell scored 16 and grabbed 10 rebounds for Jackson State (1-9). Grant Maxey and Darrion Griffin each finished with 13 apiece for the Tigers.
Burrell finished with 17 and had three steals for Texas Pan American.
