SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) -Brett Winkelman had a career-high 39 points and grabbed nine rebounds as North Dakota State beat Centenary 102-99 in overtime Saturday.
Centenary (6-4, 1-1 Summit League) led 44-35 at halftime, by at least five points for most of the second half. But once in overtime, North Dakota State (5-5, 1-1) never gave back the lead.
With 1:44 left in regulation, Centenary was eight points ahead. But the Gents fouled Ben Woodside, who finished with 23 points, and then Winkelman, both of whom made both of their free throws for the Bisons.
NDSU fouled Tyrone Hamilton, but he made only one of his free throws. The Gents fouled Michael Tveidt on a drive, and he made both the basket and the free throw that followed.
A Centenary turnover let Woodside drive up to tie the score at 86 with 32 seconds left. Another turnover kept the Gents from another chance to score.
An offensive rebound and the putback let NDSU take its first lead 51 seconds into overtime. Centenary missed four straight free throws.
