NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) -Shemik Thompson finished with 15 points and five rebounds as Central Connecticut State used a first-half outburst to roll to a 81-48 win over Delaware on Sunday.
David Simmons added 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Blue Devils (4-7).
Delaware (2-6) scored off the opening tip, but it was the last time the Fightin' Blue Hens held a lead.
Thompson scored the next six points - four on fast breaks - and a 3-pointer from Joe Seymore capped the 13-0 Central blitz that made it 13-2. After a 7-0 run later made it 20-5, the Blue Devils pushed the lead to 29-7 on five straight points from Ken Horton, who finished with 14.
Blue Devils leading scorer Tristan Blackwood, who was scoreless during the early going, hit a 3 later in the half and set up one from Seymore, as Central went up 43-12 with 3:14 to go.
One more charge finished by a Blackwood score on the break put Central up 50-16, but a 3 by Marc Egerson sent the Hens to the break down 50-19.
The Blue Devils shot 65.5 percent from the floor in the first half, their highest-scoring start since they scored 51 at home against Long Island in February 2003. Delaware shot just 26.9 percent in the first 20 minutes.
Delaware opened the second half on a 16-7 run thanks to a pressure defense that forced eight CCSU turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the half.
It was down to a 22-point game at one point, but a pair of 3-pointers by Blackwood rebuilt the lead to 65-37 at the 8:30 mark. The Blue Devils then cruised down the stretch, leading by as many as 36 at one point.
Central finished at 55 percent for the night, while Delaware was under 27 percent from the floor. Egerson had 14 points to lead the Hens.
