BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -Jimmy Drew had 12 points - including a game-winning 3-pointer with three seconds left in the game - to help lead Southeast Missouri to a 63-62 point come-from-behind win over Samford Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs (4-5, 1-1 Ohio Valley Conference) led by 11 points going into the half and led by as many as 14 points early in the second period. The Redhawks (7-4, 3-0 OVC) led twice during play before Drew's game-winning shot but never by more than four points.
Southeast Missouri had demolished Samford's lead and was ahead 47-46 with 5:05 left in the game before the Bulldogs regained their lead on an 8-1 run, bringing the score to 55-47 with 2:07 left to go.
But the Redhawks steadily chipped away at the margin and was down just two after Samford's Travis Peterson sunk two free throws with seven seconds to go. That's when Drew hit a 3-pointer on an assist from Kenard Moore to win the game.
Jaycen Herring led Southeast Missouri in scoring with 16 points, while Moore had 13 and Roderick Pearson added 11.
Samford's Peterson was the game high scorer with 18 points. Joe Ross Merritt had 12, and Trey Montgomery added 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
