BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -Travis Peterson hit a 27-footer at the buzzer to lift Samford to a 65-64 victory over Murray State Thursday night.
The Bulldogs (5-5, 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference) got the final shot after Bruce Carter hit two free throws with 2 seconds left for Murray State (5-4, 2-2).
Then, Carter stole the ball away and threw it toward an official, thinking the clock would run out. The official let the ball go out of bounds with .4 seconds left.
The clock didn't start on the inbounds play, but after officials huddled they let Peterson's game-winner stand.
Murray State had led 62-58 with 2:08 left after erasing an 11-point halftime deficit.
Trey Montgomery had 23 points for Samford and hit a 3-pointer with 39 seconds left, was fouled on the play and made the free throw. Peterson added 15 points.
Tyler Holloway led Murray State with 14 points, Carter added 12 and Kevin Thomas 10.
