NEW YORK (AP) -K.J. Matsui scored 14 points Saturday and John Baumann passed the 1,000-point career mark for Columbia, which defeated Division III Polytechnic 109-63.
Columbia (5-7) broke to a 60-34 halftime lead, with Baumann scoring on a rebound at 14:59 of the opening half to become the 23rd player in Lions history to reach 1,000 points.
Arjun Ohri led the Blue Jays with 28 points while Niko Scott had 13. Baumann finished with 11 and Dan Trepanier and Kashif Sweet added 10 for the Lions.
This was Columbia's third-highest point total and the most since a school record 118-90 at Wagner Jan. 17, 1977. It was the first meeting between Columbia and Polytechnic since 1945.
Polytechnic (3-6) held two 2-point leads in the game's opening moments, but Baumann's milestone basket tied the score at 12 and started the Lions on a 37-6 run that made the score 47-18 with 5:31 left in the half.
