BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) -Junior Mike Trimboli scored 23 points and had seven assists as Vermont defeated Central Connecticut State 84-63 on Sunday.
The Catamounts (5-7) shot 62.7 percent from the floor and held the lead through most of the game, in which Trimboli was joined in double figures by sophomore Marqus Blakely with 15 points and senior Kyle Cieplicki with 14.
Central Connecticut State (4-9) gained its only lead of the afternoon with a three by senior Tristan Blackwood 31 seconds into the game.
The Catamounts have now won 11 straight games over Northeast Conference rivals, and their 21-point margin of victory Sunday was their largest since beating Maine 79-48 on Feb. 15, 2006.
Vermont took a 42-38 lead into halftime, and continued to stretch its lead in the second half to as many as nine points before Blackwood hit seven straight to cut the gap to two points.
Sophomore Joe Seymore led Central with 23 points, while freshman Tamir Johnson added 18 and Blackwood ended up with 13.
Blackwood's scoring moved him to 13th on the Blue Devils' all-time scoring list with 1,305 points in his career. He has 267 three-point baskets in his career, and is now eight away from setting a new program record.
The game also marked career scoring highs for Seymore, who was 4-of-9 shooting from three; and for Johnson, who grabbed five rebounds while scoring his 18 points.
