CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -Montell Watson had 18 points and Monty Sanders 17 to lead Elon to its first road victory of the season, 72-63, over Citadel on Thursday night.
The Phoenix (6-7, 4-1 Southern Conference) had not won on the road since defeating Georgia Southern last Feb. 15.
The Citadel led 29-20 in the first half when Elon close the half with an 8-3 run to cut things to 32-28.
The Phoenix then scored the first eight points of the second half, six of them from Watson, to move in front for good 36-32 with 18:05 to play.
Elon later added a 16-7 run, finished by Watson's layup, that helped put the game away.
The Citadel closed within 68-61 on Matt Clark's layup with 28 seconds to play. But Elon clinched things with four foul shots.
Watson also had six rebounds, while Sanders' point total was a season-best. Ola Atoyebi finished with 16 points and seven rebounds for the Phoenix.
The Citadel (5-7, 0-3) was led by Zach Urbanus with 18 points. Clark had career highs of 17 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs.
