GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -Junior guard Stephen McDowell scored a game-high 21 points as Chattanooga ran off 14 straight in the first half and 12 in the second to defeat Furman 77-60 in Southern Conference action Saturday.
Nicchaeus Doaks added 17 points and Matt Gwynne had a game-high 10 rebounds for the Mocs (10-5, 5-0 SoCon), who won for the sixth time in seven games.
Freshman Connor Nolte scored 13 in a reserve role to pace the Paladins (2-12, 1-4).
McDowell scored 14 in the first half, hitting four 3-pointers. His long-range basket from the right wing capped the 14-0 run that gave Chattanooga a 28-11 lead nine minutes before the break.
He hit the first and last shots of the 12-0 second-half run that produced the Mocs' largest lead at 59-40 with 13:22 left in the game.
Furman made two second-half charges at the Mocs. Alex Opacic's 3-pointer made it 47-40 early in the period, but Chattanooga countered with its 12-0 run. Furman's 10-0 run to close to 59-50 with nine minutes left was answered by the Mocs' 12-3 rally to put the game out of reach at 71-53 with 4:50 left.
