NEW YORK (AP) -Garrison Carr made six of his nine 3-point attempts and scored 24 points, 19 of them in the first half, to lead American University to a 69-56 victory over Columbia on Sunday.
After Columbia (6-8) scored the game's first four points, Carr sank two 3-pointers to lead a l4-5 run that gave the Eagles a 14-9 lead with 15:08 to go in the first half.
Columbia cut the lead to one before Carr scored all eight points, with two more 3s, in an 8-2 burst that put American ahead, 25-17, with 9:04 left.
American (8-7) led 36-24 at the half on the way to ending a two-game losing streak.
John Baumann had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Columbia, which had won two in a row and three of four
Derrick Mercer scored 12 points for the Eagles and Travis Lay added 10.
