COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -James Gist scored 22 points as Maryland routed a depleted Holy Cross squad 73-48 Tuesday night.
The Terps (10-6) were playing without starting guard Eric Hayes, but the Crusaders (9-4) were without several players including starters Pat Doherty and Alex Vander Baan.
By the time the first 12 minutes were over, however, it didn't much matter for either side after Maryland ran off a 20-0 run to put the Crusaders away early.
It was Maryland's fourth win in a row after three losses and their final non-conference game of the season.
Hayes did not start due to an ankle injury. Freshman Cliff Tucker started in his place and had 10 points and 4 assists, both career highs.
Gist also led Maryland with nine rebounds. Greivis Vasquez had 17 points, six assists and six rebounds and Landon Milbourne had a career-high 12 points for Maryland.
For Holy Cross, Doherty was out with an Achilles tendon injury, Vander Baan with back spasms and top reserve Eric Meister with a hand injury.
Tim Clifford scored 15 points and had 8 rebounds to lead Holy Cross. Adam May had 14 points.
The Crusaders shot just 27.1 percent for the game and committed 24 turnovers, but outrebounded Maryland 41-36.
Maryland won despite 19 turnovers and making just 17 of 28 free throws. The Terps shot 50 percent for the game.
Holy Cross scored the game's first five points, but then went more than 10 minutes without scoring a point as Maryland built a 20-5 lead.
The Crusaders, who missed 14 straight shots and committed eight turnovers over that stretch, finally broke the scoreless stretch with 8:16 to play on a pair of free throws by May.
After Vasquez answered with a 3-pointer, May scored the Crusaders' first field goal in more than 11 minutes with 7:02 left in the half.
Maryland ran its lead to 44-24 early in the second half, but the Crusaders made a run, closing the lead to 50-37 and forcing a Maryland timeout. After the break, Maryland outscored Holy Cross 17-5 for a 67-42 lead.
