NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) -Trey Gilder scored a game-high 26 points, snagged seven rebounds and blocked two shots as Northwestern State drained a season-best 56 percent from the field to get a 95-84 Southland Conference win over Texas State on Thursday.
Keithan Hancock, a junior guard, dropped in a career-high 21 points, Colby Bargeman scored 15 and Jerry Moody added 11 for the Demons (6-10, 2-0).
Northwestern State used a 20-3 run in the first half to take control, led by 21 points with 8:26 remaining and was never seriously threatened after halftime.
Texas State (7-7, 0-1) made just 43 percent of their shots and turned it over 21 times while being outrebounded 43-33.
Brent Benson and Corey Jefferson each scored 18 for Texas State, with Matt Fullenwider adding 11. The Bobcats' leading scorer, Brandon Bush, was held to 7, well under his 15.6 average that ranks third in the SLC.
