BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) -Brett Harvey scored a career-high 20 points and as Loyola (Md.) hung on to defeat Fairfield, 67-63 on Friday night.
Gerald Brown added 19 points for the Greyhounds (7-9, 3-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic League), who had lost 16 of their last 17 regular-season meetings with Fairfield (5-10, 3-2).
A week after Fairfield wiped out an 11-point second-half deficit and won at Loyola, the Greyhounds had to withstand another wild comeback by the Stags.
Trailing 53-42 with 7:03 left, Fairfield cut the lead to 58-56 on a 3-point play by Herbie Allen with 3:12 remaining. A 3-pointer by Fairfield's Jonathan Han with 1:12 left kept the Stags within a bucket, but Harvey hit two of three free throws with 32 seconds to go to make it 65-61. After a driving layup by Han, Loyola?s Marquis Sullivan canned a pair of free throws with 6.2 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.
Allen finished with a career-high 23 points for the Stags, who dropped to 1-5 at home.
Fairfield led by as much as four in the first half, but did not score a basket in the final 8:32 as the Greyhounds used a 13-2 spurt to take a 28-21 halftime lead.
