HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -Jeremy Wise scored 23 points as Southern Mississippi beat visiting Tulane 71-54 Saturday in a Conference USA game.
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for Southern Miss (9-7, 1-1). Tulane (10-6, 0-2) had won three straight games in this series.
Wise had seven rebounds and five assists and got plenty of help from fellow guard Courtney Beasley who added 19 points.
Southern Miss overcame an early 12-4 deficit thanks to a 21-4 run.
Wise scored 12 points in the first half. He ended the half with a pair of free throws and then a steal and a lay-up in the final 50 seconds, giving Southern Miss a 33-20 advantage at halftime.
The Green Wave made their first four shots of the game, but made just 12 of their final 45 shots from the field after Southern Miss switched from a man-to-man to a zone defense.
Tulane never got any closer than 12 points down the stretch.
David Gomez led Tulane with 12 points and seven rebounds and Kevin Sims added 11.
