AMHERST, NY. (AP) -Jeremiah Wood scored 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds as Akron defeated Buffalo 76-68 in Mid-American Conference basketball Saturday.

Cedrick Middleton had 15 points and 5 rebounds, going 7-for-7 from the foul line. Quade Milum also grabbed 5 boards while scoring 12 points. Nick Dials had 14 points and 3 assists.

Akron (12-3, 2-0) opened up an 11-point lead to start the second half, but saw its advantage pared when Buffalo?s Andy Robinson drained 3-pointer cut the margin to 60-57 with 4:24 left.

But the Zips won the game at the foul line, going 28-of-31 in the game and hitting 14 straight down the stretch in the final 3:54.

Calvin Betts led Buffalo (6-8, 0-2) with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Robinson scored 14 points, while Rodney Pierce added 13.

Akron shot 40 percent from the field for the game. Buffalo shot 42 percent from the field and was 5-of-9 from the foul line.
