BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) -Mike Trimboli scored Vermont's last five points in the final minute and finished with 19 as the Catamounts held off New Hampshire 64-61 Saturday.
Alvin Abreu of New Hampshire got a good look at a 3-pointer in the final second, but the shot bounced off the back iron as Vermont (7-9, 2-2 America East) held on.
Abreu had 18 points and Mike Christiansen 17 for New Hampshire (4-11, 1-3).
After falling behind 34-15 at the half, New Hampshire pulled within 59-58 on Tyrece Gibbs' two free throws with 47 seconds left. But Trimboli answered with a jumper, and after a New Hampshire free throw, he hit two free tosses to make it 63-59. Christensen made a layup with 6 seconds left to get New Hampshire back within a basket, but Trimboli hit one of two free throws.
New Hampshire missed its first 15 field goal attempts, and hit only 2 of 21 in the first half. But the Wildcats outscored Vermont 24-10 to start the second half.
