HONOLULU (AP) -Matt Gibson scored 14 points and made the game-winning layup as Hawaii defeated San Jose State, 65-64, in a Western Athletic Conference game on Monday night.
Gibson's running layup came with 11 seconds left. San Jose State's DaShawn Wright missed a shot with four seconds remaining and Hawaii's Jared Dillinger grabbed the rebound.
Bill Amis scored 14 points and Bobby Nash added 13 for Hawaii (6-10 overall, 2-1 Western Athletic).
Nash's 3-pointer with 3:38 left in the second half gave Hawaii a 56-54 lead, its first lead of the game since the 18:58 mark in the first half. The game was tied twice after that and the lead changed six times.
Wright scored San Jose State's last basket with 45 seconds left, giving the Spartans a 64-63 lead.
Wright led San Jose State (8-8, 1-3) with 20 points and C.J. Webster added 16.
San Jose State led by as much as 11 in the first half and held a 30-24 halftime lead.
