BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) -Freshman guard Brandon Herbert scored a game-high 20 points to lead Binghamton over Stony Brook 67-61 in America East play Tuesday night.
Binghamton, 7-10 overall and 3-2 in the conference, extended its home winning streak to five. Stony Brook fell to 4-12 and 1-3.
Herbert, the sixth Bearcat to hit the 20-point mark this season, hit 6-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, and helped hold off Stony Brook with 13 second-half points including a free throw in the final 17 seconds.
Binghamton, which shot 58 percent in the second half, had an uneasy final four minutes as the Seawolves used a 14-4 run to trim a 12-point deficit to just two, 61-59, with 26 seconds left.
Mike Gordon made a pair of free throws with 25 seconds left to push the lead to four, and Binghamton converted 6-of-8 from the line in the final 25 seconds to seal the win.
Lazar Trifunovic scored 16 points for Binghamton. Gordon and Dwayne Jackson each had 10.
Emanuel Neto led Stony Brook with 14 points and eight rebounds. Nick Carter had 13 points and Mitchell Beauford had 11.
