DALLAS (AP) -Dion Dowell came off the bench to score 21 points and grab nine rebounds to lead Houston to a 99-71 victory over SMU Wednesday night.
Dowell hit 9 of 12 from the field, including 3 of 6 3-pointers. Robert McKiver scored 20 points and Kelvin Lewis had 16 for the Cougars (12-3, 1-0 Conference USA).
Papa Dia led SMU (6-9, 0-2) with 21 points. Alex Malone added 15. Bamba Fall scored 13 and had 10 rebounds. Ryan Harp scored 12.
Houston scored 31 points off 20 SMU turnovers. The Cougars committed only eight turnovers.
