DENVER (AP) -Freshman Kyle Lewis scored 19 points, and Denver defeated Arkansas State 59-52 Thursday night.

Nate Rohnert scored 13 points for Denver (8-9, 4-2 Sun Belt), and Adam Tanner added 12.

Denver played without scoring and rebounding leader David Kummer, who suffered a fractured right fibula Sunday and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Arkansas State (8-9, 3-4 SBC) was led by Adrian Banks with 14 points, while Shawn Morgan had 11 rebounds and nine points.

Denver led 55-50 with 25 seconds remaining when Xander McNally of the Pioneers blocked a three-point attempt by Yima Chai-Kur. Tanner and Rob Lewis sealed the victory with two free throws each in the final seconds.

The Pioneers never trailed. Denver started the game with a 21-6 lead and led 35-23 at the half.

Arkansas State started the second half with an 8-0 run to pull within four, 35-31, before Denver scored six unanswered points.

The Indians got as close as 47-46 with 4:21 to go, but Tanner hit a 3-pointer to extend Denver's lead to four.
