BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Frank Tuner scored 17 points to help Canisius end a 12-game regular season conference losing streak with a 70-62 win over Niagara Friday night in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

In a tight contest that featured five lead changes and five ties, Canisius (3-14, 1-6 MAAC) took command with a late 7-0 run.

With Canisius leading 55-54, Gregg Logins started the run on a field goal with 3:35 left. Bob Bevilacqua followed with a 3-pointer 45 seconds later and Willie Hassel capped it with a fast break layup, giving the Golden Griffins a 62-54 lead with 2:28 to play.

The run capped a stretch where Niagara (11-5, 5-2 MAAC), which entered the game with the conference's No. 2 offense, was held without a field goal for nearly four minutes.

Bevilacqua and Hassel each finished with 10 points for Canisius, which snapped a four-game losing streak. Tomas Vazquez-Simmons also had 10.

The nation's leading scorer, Charron Fisher, finished with 21 points for Niagara. Tyrone Lewis had 15 and Stanley Hodge added 13.

Canisius beat Niagara for the first time since November 30, 2002. The Golden Griffins had lost nine straight to their cross-town rival.
