ORONO, Maine (AP) -Eric Gilchrese scored 20 points and Tyrece Gibbs added 19 as New Hampshire combined early success from 3-point range with accurate free throws down the stretch to come away with an 81-75 victory over Maine in America East on Saturday.

The Wildcats (5-12, 2-3) opened the game by hitting five in a row from beyond the arc. Overall, UNH was 13 for 27 on 3-point attempts.

After a tight first half that saw 11 lead changes and three ties, New Hampshire grabbed a 62-47 lead with 8:58 to play. But Maine (5-12, 1-3) came back with a 12-2 run in which Mark Socoby hit back-to-back 3-pointers and two foul shots.

New Hampshire then extended its lead to nine points and finished the game by hitting 13 of its final 16 free throws.

Socoby was the game's top scorer with 25 points.
