LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) -Bryan Smithson had two jumpers and a pair of last second free throws in overtime to lead the University of North Carolina-Asheville to a 90-87 win over VMI on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (14-4, 3-0 Big South) trailed 80-77 with 2:34 to play before K.J. Garland hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left in regulation to tie it up.
The Keydets (10-7, 2-1) gave up 24 points off turnovers. N.C.-Asheville, which kept VMI to 53 percent from the field - 28.6 in overtime - garnered only 44 percent shooting for the game and went 57.1 percent in overtime.
Vincent James and Sean Smith led the Bulldogs with 17 points each, Smithson added 14 and Reid August had 13.
Reggie Williams led VMI with 23 points and 19 rebounds. Travis Holmes added 23, Christian Hunter had 12, Chavis Holmes 11 and Adam Lonon 10.
