ELON, N.C. (AP) -Kyle Hines had 22 points and 11 rebounds and UNC Greensboro recovered from a poor start to beat Elon 61-57 on Saturday to snap a two-game losing streak.
Ben Stywall added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Spartans (10-6, 4-3 Southern Conference), including two free throws with 4:57 left to cap a 29-11 run that put UNC Greensboro ahead 53-44.
Elon (7-11, 5-5) got the deficit down to 58-57 on Montell Watson's 3-pointer with 17.2 seconds left. But Stywall hit two free throws at the other end and Brett James missed a tying 3-point attempt with 6 seconds left for the Phoenix.
James had 18 points and seven rebounds and Watson scored 14 points for Elon, which raced to a 22-9 lead.
The Phoenix, who have lost two straight and four of six, shot 37 percent and made only 4 of 11 free throws.
