MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich (AP) -Giordan Watson had a season-high 29 points as Central Michigan defeated Northern Illinois 77-63 Saturday night.
The Chippewas (7-9, 2-2 Mid-American Conference West) forced the Huskies (4-12, 1-3) into 23 turnovers, resulting in 22 points.
Central Michigan trailed only once in the contest, at 4-3 two minutes into the game, but a 9-2 run allowed the Chippewas to establish a lead they would never relinquish. Central led by as many as 18 points in the second half.
The Chippewas were 32-for-41 at the free-throw line after forcing the Huskies into 29 fouls.
Watson had a season-high five 3-pointers, going 5-for-7 from behind the arc for his 29 points. Chris Kellerman added 14 points for Central.
Northern Illinois was led by Darion Anderson, who had 22 points off the bench. Sean Smith had 10 points and five rebounds for the Huskies.
