PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) -Tony Murphy scored 20 points in 20 minutes and sat for most of the second half, and Norfolk State picked up an 84-65 win against Maryland-Eastern Shore Monday night.
The Spartans (7-9) had three players in double figures with Michael Deloach scoring 19 and Corey Lyons adding 18.
Norfolk State jumped out to a 20-8 lead as the Hawks missed 13 of their first 15 shots. The Spartans were up by as many as 17 points in the first half and held a 44-32 advantage at the break.
Norfolk State shot 60 percent from the field and held UMES (2-16) to 28 percent from in the first half. The Spartans started the second half with a 17-7 run over the first 6:07 and rode the lead to the finish despite 22 turnovers in the game.
Ed Tyson led all scorers with 34 points for UMES on 9-of-22 shooting, but the rest of the Hawks managed just 10-of-48 from the field.
Freshmen Ishmawiyl McFadden and Denzel Jackson added 11 points each for the Hawks, who lost their seventh straight game.
