BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) -Mike Trimboli scored 22 points to lead Vermont to a 72-62 victory over Stony Brook on Monday night.
Marqus Blakely had 13 points, 14 rebounds and a career-high eight blocks for the Catamounts (9-9, 4-2 America East).
Michael Tyree had 20 points for Stony Brook (4-14, 1-5), which shot only 25.7 percent from the field in the second half and 31.3 percent for the game.
The Catamounts led by as many as 14 points in the second half, but the Seawolves closed within six with 2:59 to go, but late free throws by Vermont sealed the victory.
Three straight 3-pointers by Nick Vier, Trimboli and Joey Accaoui gave Vermont a 17-7 lead with 13:32 left in the first half. Stony Brook answered with a 9-0 run over the next 4 minutes to make it 17-16. Trimboli's short jumper with 6 seconds left in the half gave the Catamounts a 35-29 at halftime.
Colin McIntosh had 12 points for Vermont while Vier added 10.
