SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -Brody Angley recorded career highs with 24 points and 13 assists and Santa Clara reached the century mark for the first time in 14 years, beating Pepperdine 101-86 on Monday night.
Ben Dowdell added 17 points as the Broncos (10-8, 2-1 WCC) won their second straight following a three-game losing streak. John Bryant added 14 points and nine rebounds, Zac Tiedeman scored a season-high 13 points and Jonathan Gunderson had 12.
Mychel Thompson and Malcolm Thomas each scored 16 points to lead the Waves (6-14, 0-4 WCC), who are now 2-10 since a four-game winning streak. Daniel Johnson added 13 and Tyler Tucker had 12.
The season has become a struggle for the Waves, who lost their coach and two senior players in the past week. Vance Wahlberg resigned unexpectedly last Tuesday, and his son Jason followed his father. Senior Jarrad Henry reinjured his thumb and did not make the trip.
Eric Bridgeland, a teammate of NBA and former Santa Clara star Steve Nash when they both played for the Canadian National Team in 1992-93, was elevated to interim status.
Pepperdine entered the game with one player left over from last year. The Waves start three freshmen and have seven on the roster, along with three junior college transfers and a walk-on sophomore.
The two teams reside on the opposite ends of the conference scale as Pepperdine is the WCC's top offensive team, but it's worst defensive team. The Broncos top the defensive chart, and are last in offense.
Santa Clara made a season-high 12 3-pointers and 36 field goals. The Broncos scored their most points in a game since an 111-55 victory over Chico State on Nov. 27, 1993.
