GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -Forward Jeremy Clayton scored a carer-high 21 points on perfect, 8-of-8 field goal shooting as Appalachian State won its seventh straight with an 84-66 victory over Furman on Thursday night.
Clayton also had a game-best 11 rebounds. Donte Minter added 19 points and freshman Donald Sims 14 for the Mountaineers (12-6, 7-2 Southern Conference), who used a 22-5 run over a six minute span of the opening half to take control.
The victory was also Appalachian State's ninth in its past 10 games.
Freshman forward Connor Nolte scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Paladins (3-16, 2-8). Guard Justin Dehm added 14 for Furman.
Minter scored 10 points during the decisive first-half run that put the Mountaineers ahead 41-27 just before halftime. He opened the charge with a layup and then put Appalachian State ahead to stay, 23-22, on another inside shot moments later.
Clayton's foul shots at 1:58 finished the surge. Clayton's three-point play to open the second half increased the lead to 49-32.
Furman couldn't get any closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
