RUSTON, La. (AP) -Jaycee Carroll, the Western Athletic Conference's leading scorer, started slow but finished with 16 points to lead Utah State to a 71-61 win over Louisiana Tech on Thursday.

The Aggies (15-5, 5-0) remained perfect in conference play and got their first WAC road victory as they shot 64.3 percent from the field, holding off two Tech rallies to come away with the victory.

Utah State charged to a 26-6 lead with 9:23 to play in the opening half. Tech went on a 22-3 run of their own, pulling within one point, 29-28, on a layup by Dwayne Lathan with 3:16 remaining in the half. But Tech (3-14, 0-5) would go cold the rest of the period as the Aggies took a 36-28 lead into the break.

Utah State, in the second half, picked up where they left off, going on a 28-9 run to regain a 20-point lead. Tech, however, chipped away at the lead and a James Loe 3-pointer at the final horn cut the final margin to 10 points.

Tech's Kyle Gibson led all scorers with 17 points, including four from 3-point range. Lathan added 14 for the Bulldogs.

Utah State, which held a 39-14 rebounding advantage, got 16 points from Gary Wilkinson while Tyler Newbold added 12 and Stephen DuCharme had 11.
