NEWARK, Del. (AP) -Leonard Mendez scored 19 points, including a key free throw with 11.7 seconds left, as Georgia State edged Delaware 54-53 in a Colonial Athletic Association game Saturday.

Mendez hit the second of two foul shots with 11.7 seconds remaining to give the Panthers (2-7 CAA, 5-14 overall) a 54-50 lead. Brian Johnson hit a three-pointer at the final buzzer for Delaware to cut the margin to one.

Georgia State snapped a six-game losing streak in beating Delaware (6-3, 9-10) for the third time in three meetings. The loss broke a five-game home winning streak for the Blue Hens.

Georgia State rallied from a 10-point deficit early in the second half to lead by as many as four points with just under seven minutes left in the contest. Delaware took the lead briefly, 48-47, on Jim Ledsome's tip-in with 4:24 left, but D.J. Jones scored off an offensive rebound with 3:55 remaining to give the Panthers a 49-48 advantage and Georgia State never trailed again.

Mendez was the only player to score in double figures for Georgia State. Delaware was led by Marc Egerson with 12 points, Johnson (11) and Alphonso Dawson (11).
