HAMPTON, Va. (AP) -Michael Freeman scored 19 points, Rashad West had 10 and Hampton overcame 36 percent shooting and outlasted Coppin State 56-54 on Saturday night.

The Pirates (11-6, 5-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) didn't make a field goal for the last 4 1/2 minutes, but connected on 11 of 21 free throws in the second half to hang on.

Coppin State (4-16, 0-6) got 15 points from Tywain McKee, who had a chance to tie it at 54-all from 3-point range with 33 seconds left, but missed.

The Pirates got free throws from Adrian Woodward and West in the closing seconds and held on when Antwan Harrison intentionally missed a free throw with 5 seconds left and Theo Smalling grabbed the rebound for Hampton and the Pirates ran out the clock.
