ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) -Andrew Hayles scored 18 points to lead Alabama State to a 76-71 win over Alcorn State on Saturday.
Brandon Brooks added 16 points for Alabama State (9-7, 5-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference), Rashad Provitt scored 14 and Chief Kickingstallionsims chipped in 10.
Alcorn (3-16, 2-5) led 39-36 at halftime before falling behind in the second half. The Braves closed the gap to 74-71 with just seven seconds to play but couldn't pull off a win.
Alex Owumi lead Alcorn with 16 points, Tory Jackson scored 15 and Anthony Ford and Jarvis Williams added 11 apiece.
