MALIBU, Calif. (AP) -Malcolm Thomas scored 18 points and Tyrone Shelley had 16 as Pepperdine beat Loyola Marymount 87-64 Saturday night in the first victory for interim head coach Eric Bridgeland.
Thomas added five blocks and six rebounds and Rico Tucker and Ryan Holmes scored 15 points apiece for the Waves (7-14, 1-4 West Coast), who snapped a four-game losing streak.
After a 13-2 run, Pepperdine took a 25-point lead with just under two minutes remaining.
Bridgeland, a Pepperdine assistant, took over last week after Vance Walberg resigned, citing personal and family reasons.
Orlando Johnson had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Shawn Deadwiler also scored 17 for Loyola Marymount (4-17, 1-4), losers of 10 of 11.
Pepperdine had a 22-5 first-half run and entered halftime leading 39-23. In the second half, Loyola never got closer than 11 points.
Mychel Thompson added 12 points and three steals for Pepperdine, which went 13 of 16 from the foul line and out-rebounded Loyola, 34-32.
