TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -Lamar Twitty scored 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Florida A&M held on for a 70-68 win over Delaware St. on Monday night in a Mid-Eastern Athletic game.
The Rattlers (8-11, 4-3 MEAC) led by as many as eight in the last two minutes, but Delaware St. hit five 3-pointers in the last ninety seconds to pull within two. FAMU lead by five with six seconds to play, but Joe Dickens hit a 3-pointer with .06 seconds left to pull the Hornets within two.
The Rattlers inbounded the ball and time expired before Delaware St. was able to foul.
Twitty was 6-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the 3-point line and 5-of-5 from the free throw line. He added five assists. Joe Ballard scored 13 points and had five assists, Larry Jackson scored 12, and Byron Taylor added 10 for the Rattlers.
Roy Bright, the MEAC's leading scorer overcame a slow start to score a team high 18 points for Delaware St. (7-11, 4-2 MEAC). Donald Johnson added 14 points, and Trevor Welcher scored 10 for the Hornets.
The Rattlers led by two with just over four minutes to play when point guard Joe Ballard was fouled hard by Donald Johnson. Three Rattler reserves, Jon Mason, Darryl Demps, and Cassius Bell were ejected for leaving the bench area.
Twitty scored 14 first half points to help the Rattlers take a 29-23 halftime lead.
