WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -P.J. Couisnard's alley-oop slam dunk in overtime helped seal Wichita State's 70-62 win over Missouri State on Tuesday night.
Couisnard and Gal Mekel each scored 18 points for the Shockers, who snapped a six-game losing streak.
Wendell Preadom's fast-break layup put Wichita State (9-12, 2-8 Missouri Valley) ahead 57-54 with 21.6 seconds left in the game. But with Missouri State coach Barry Hinson trying to call a time-out, Dale Lambreth hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 57-57 and send it to overtime.
Chris Cooks scored a game-high 20 points for Missouri State (11-11, 5-5), and Lambreth added 18.
The Shockers scored the first six points of overtime on Phillip Thomasson free throws, a Mekel 3-pointer and a Ramon Clemente free throw. The six-point lead was the biggest of the game for either team to that point.
Missouri State finally scored in the extra session on Cooks' three-point play with 1:44 remaining, pulling the Bears to within three, 63-60.
But Mekel quickly found Thomasson with an alley-oop pass for an easy basket, and the Shockers never led by less than four after that. Thomasson had 14 points and nine rebounds for WSU.
Wichita State led 28-27 at halftime. After the break, Missouri State grabbed a 33-32 lead, its first since being up 7-6, and neither team led by more than four the rest of regulation.
Spencer Laurie helped keep the Bears in it with two 3-pointers in a 90-second span late in regulation, but a Couisnard 3-pointer kept the game close.
