WASHINGTON(AP) -Greg Sprink had career highs of 36 points and four steals to give Navy its first win at American in 17 years, 77-66 on Wednesday night.
With the Midshipmen (10-11, 3-3 Patriot League) trailing 42-40 early in the second half, Chris Harris hit a running jumper, then a 3-pointer to start a 12-2 run. Meanwhile, the Eagles went more than eight minutes with just one basket.
The Eagles (11-10, 3-3) cut Navy's lead to 55-53 with just over seven minutes left on a bank shot inside by Travis Lay and Brian Gilmore's fast-break layup off a steal. But Navy scored the next seven points and American never came closer than five points after that.
Sprink, who scored 13 of the Midshipmen's last 17 points in the final six minutes, surpassed 20 points for the seventh straight game. It's the longest such streak for Navy since David Robinson had 13 straight in the 1986-87 season.
Harris added 15 points as the Midshipmen held American to 30 percent shooting in the second half.
Gilmore scored 16 points, Lay had 15 and Garrison Carr had 11 for American, which had a season-high 47 rebounds but lost for the seventh time after leading at halftime.
