ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -Tubby Smith got his 400th career win as Minnesota beat Michigan 77-65 on Thursday night.
Lawrence McKenzie led Minnesota (13-6, 3-4 Big Ten) with 18 points and Dan Coleman added 17.
Manny Harris led Michigan (5-16, 1-8) with 19 and Ron Coleman had 14.
Minnesota led by as many as 22 late in the second half after the Golden Gophers scored the first eight points of the half to take a 42-26 lead.
Both teams were sluggish to begin the game, but the Golden Gophers pulled away for an 11-2 lead on Damian Johnson's dunk with 14:41 left.
Jamal Abu-Shamala pushed the lead to 11 at 17-6 with 12:24 remaining in the opening half.
Dan Coleman's basket gave Minnesota its biggest lead of the half, 34-22, with 1:15 left.
Michigan also commemorated the 40th anniversary of Crisler Arena on Thursday night. Cazzie Russell and members of the 1967-68 team were introduced at halftime. Rudy Tomjanovch was scheduled to attend, but couldn't.
