JACKSONVILLE, (AP) -Marcus Allen scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in the second half to lead Jacksonville in a 77-66 win over Campbell in an Atlantic Sun Conference game Thursday.
The win enabled the Dolphins to retain sole possession of first place in the A-Sun as they improved their league mark to 7-1, 11-9 overall.
Allen scored eight of Jacksonville's first ten points in the opening four minutes of the second half, all on lay-ups. Six of the center's seven baskets in the second half were either lay-ups or tip-ins. That enabled Allen to make 10-of-12 shots from the field and 5-of-6 free throws for his 25 points in 25 minutes of action.
Jacksonville trailed 37-33 at halftime and was still down by four points two minutes into the second half. That's when the Dolphins put together an 18-4 surge to take a 10-point lead of 55-45 with just under 10 minutes to play.
Jacksonville increased the lead to 14 points with 6 minutes left.
Campbell (8-12, 3-5) cut the deficit to seven points at 66-59 with three minutes left in the game but could not get any closer.
Allen hit the 20-point mark for the fourth time in the last five games. Lehmon Colbert scored 12 and Ben Smith added 10 for the Dolphins. Jacksonville shot only 37 percent from the field in the first half but improved to 53 percent in the final 20 minutes.
Jonathan Rodriguez scored 15 to lead the Fighting Camels.
