DENTON, Texas (AP) -Collin Dennis came off the bench to score 21 points to help lead North Texas to a 70-68 victory over South Alabama Thursday night, snapping the Jaguars' 13-game winning streak.
A 3-point shot by South Alabama's Demetric Bennett hit the front of the rim as time expired.
Josh White added 18 points for North Texas (13-7, 4-5 Sun Belt).
Bennett led South Alabama (17-4, 9-1) with 22 points. Brandon Davis had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Daon Merritt added 15 points.
The Jaguars led 36-30 at halftime.
Dennis and White each hit 3-pointers to start the second half as North Texas cut South Alabama's lead to two. The Mean Green got their first lead at 42-41 on a layup by Quincy Williams with 15:40 left. A 3-pointer by White gave North Texas a 47-41 lead with 14:21 left.
Neither team led by more than five points the rest of the way in a game that saw 10 lead changes and eight ties. Dennis put North Texas back up by five at 69-64 with a 3-pointer at 1:37 left.
Bennett cut the lead to one at 69-68, but Williams hit a free throw for the final margin.
South Alabama shot 52 percent from the field in the first half but only 27 percent in the second half, as they made only 7-of-26 field goals. The Jaguars finished with a season-low 38 percent from the field.
North Texas scored 24 points off of 19 South Alabama turnovers.
